X4333 EFC1/T29.4.22. To Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. to Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c. to Py. c. to Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}/Mr. Brock. X.4333 - RE MOULDED COMMUTATORS FOR GOSHAWK. X2494 Two Goshawk dynamo moulded bakelite commutators with mica commutator plate separators have failed by bursting, during the road trials of the Goshawk cars, and it is now considered that we should make a trial of Condensite material, the manufacturers in this country of which are the Condensite Co., (Mr. J.A. Hill), Ordnance Works, Bernard Road, Park, Sheffield. It will be remembered that when we first started moulding, the Condensite Co. were not ready with their plant for output in this country of Condensite powder; by now, however, it is probable that they will be well on the way. In particular we would like an enquiry to be sent to them for suitable powder for the moulding of commutators which presumably will have mixed with it some proportion of an inert filler, such as asbestos fibre, at any rate we would like their definite recommendations for commutator work in particular. We would also like to have an opportunity of trying their ordinary powder for the manufacture of pieces other than commutators. Perhaps you would kindly write to them to this end. EFC. | ||
