ROLLS-ROYCE, LIMITED. LABORATORY REPORT. RR. 864b. L 422 To: EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} & EH. Date: 6th Septr 1917 Re: Welding wire (steel) laboratory on: Our specification (204) Carbon not more than .10 Silicon .15 Manganese .60 (pref.ly .35 to .55) Sulphur .04 Phosphorus .04 Material must melt readily under blow-pipe & not foam or spatter. This conforms to Air Board Specn S.32 The welders are not complaining of the wire in present use or the quality of the materials to be welded. About a year ago there were complaints - several lots of wire (of rather unsatisfactory composition) were rejected. This soon made itself evident on use. Signature: HCD | ||
