Dear Sirs,

With reference to your letter of the 25th ultimo, regarding cylinder materials and wear, we give the following answers to your questions:-

1. Do you fit separate liners ?
Yes.

2. What material do you use and what is its hardness ?
Drawing No. A.57109 is attached and will give you hardness. Specification No.21 for the material is also attached.

3. What is the usual rate of wear in a bus engine ?
For the engine under review, the cylinder wear figure works out at 0.00031" per 1,000 miles.

4. What material do you use for the piston rings, and what is its hardness ?
Drawing No. A2/11619 is attached and will give you the brinell hardness figures of piston rings. We also attached material specification No.22.

5. Do you fit aluminium pistons ?
Yes.
