EFC3/T30.1.29. -2- Contd. give a considerably higher output than normal with the early cutting-in at the same time, and one of approximately the same weight as at present. The reason of this is that the output of our standard dynamo is at present limited, and must be limited, by considerations of possible heating when the dynamo is being run continuously in an overcharging condition of the battery, when the voltage is high and the heating of the dynamo greatest. With reliable automatic control the control brush of the dynamo could be set to allow the same machine to give a considerably greater output when required. At the present moment Mr. Royce does not favour the experimental development of automatic control and in the circumstances nothing further can be done beyond the provision of the special machines which are available for certain customers at any time.
