EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}'S VISIT TO AMERICA.

X.3614.

With reference to Mr. Platford's memo, Re Visit to America. The following are my points on this matter which may be of interest to you :-

Item 1. The policy for this has been agreed to.

Item 2. " " " " " "

Item 3.

X.3413.
X.3905.
Over-oiling of faulty ignition. The Lodge people have just supplied us with a set of porcelain plugs. We are testing a great number of different makes of plugs. We consider that we shall be in a position in a few months time to recommend the standardisation of another type of plug. We should not recommend dropping the Lodge but we should get half of our supply from another maker.

Item 4.

X.3702.
Magnetos. We have sent a memo, round to see whether anybody is against fitting German Bosch Magnetos to our chassis. We believe, for instance, that no cars are allowed to be imported into Australia that are fitted with German Magnetos. The Bosch Magneto is also going to be more expensive than the Watford. On the whole however, we would definitely recommend the Bosch Magneto to be standardised if the Sales Dept. are certain that the policy of fitting a German made article is right.

Item 5. All the complaints have been, or are being, dealt with.

Item 6. We recommend that the present wiring should be modified to overcome this fault.

Item 7. Luggage carrier brackets are standardised.

Item 8.
X.3421.
There will be a noticeable improvement when the bonnets come through fitted with the Ferodo strips but we shall not arrive at a complete solution on our bonnet troubles until the fixing of it is thoroughly gone into and redesigned.

Item 9. Radiators. Experimental Dept. will let Mr. Bailey know the expansion on the rad- Contd.
