BENTLEY CHASSIS - BEARING FOR BEVEL PINION.
RE: MATERIAL OF CAGES.

Whilst the change from brass to Duralumin has increased the life of the cage, we have found that Duralumin cages have ultimately fractured in a similar manner to the brass, but that a cage made in mild steel has functioned satisfactorily, having completed the 10,000 miles, the cage and the races being both in good condition. In view of this, therefore, we should at once return all the bearings we can possibly spare of this type to Messrs. Ransome & Marles, and have them re-fitted with steel cages.

This matter is urgent, and should be given immediate attention.

The D.O. should alter their part lists to incorporate a new number covering the steel cage, which will be given to them by the Order Office, as a result of writing them based on the present memo. In the meantime Mr. Grylls will get in touch with Messrs. Ransome & Marles, and see that they treat the matter urgently.

x Ransome & Marles.
