Clutches Supplied by Borg & Beck Ltd., re Roy{Sir Henry Royce}/Les.1/ER.1.2.39. - 1260 file We agree that there are certain items for which we now pay extra, which we could abandon without any loss of reliability or efficiency in operation. Below we submit our views on each point in detail, and suggest a conference at an early date with By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} and NRC.{N. R. Chandler} (who will bring models and drawings to facilitate discussion). Dealing first with the 10" Long clutch which we expect to standardise for all Bentley's, we start with a clean sheet because there are no existing jigs or manufacturing methods to consider or alter. The price of £2.5.0. quoted by B. & B. includes a number of 'extras', (based on our B. & B. practice), over and above the standard American finish, of which a number of samples are now running very successfully on experimental cars. ITEM 3. SPECIAL EYEBOLT NUTS. - -/4d. We think this should read set-screws, there being no eye-bolts in the Long. As these set-screws are stressed under centrifugal force, we recommend c/NCR. ITEM 4. ENAMELLING PRESSURE PLATE. - -/5d. We do not consider this necessary, and in any case the enamel usually flakes off. ITEM 7. POLISHING RELEASE LEVERS. - -/6d. This does not appear necessary, the 'Long' levers are drop forgings. ITEM 8. BONDERIZING & ENAMELLING COVER - 1/-d.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} The Long clutches as received from U.S.A. are not treated in any way, and are always rusty on arrival. | ||
