it would be as well if Mr. Hall had several samples from several engines to confirm his views that the metal particles found came from the walls of the cylinders or the piston rings.
This would suggest that either the grinding materials were not thoroughly cleaned out, or that road grit was the cause of this cast iron deposit in the sludge.
It will be remembered that Mr. Platford says that he found the crankshaft bearings badly worn, but this sludge does not support that the iron particles came off the steel crankshaft.
