Regarding G.W.R. Cranes. I am sorry I do not know Mr. Collet, and do not know how I can help, perhaps it would be good to ask Mr. Halley if he would go, if you could arrange an appointment with the Assistant Engineer GWR Collet, to find out if we know the cranes we are quoting for were suited to their requirements, Another idea would be (2) to send the prints to me so that you could say in your letter Mr. F.H. Royce had examined the designs, but regretted that imperfect health prevented him visiting Swindon but that another of our Directors Mr. R.D. Hall & Ind Med. E.J.C would be pleased to do so if they wished. You will see how extremely important, that our designs are beyond criticism and much equal or more important than lowness of price. It has occurred that you might consult with Mr. Coley as to the advisability of quickly offering them a self sustaining spiral keyed friction brake at an extra price as extra security, & either take the full load or say 2/3rds so as to make it easy for the brake to hold & more regular in the time of pulling up, if such a device could be fitted where it was not too heavy, I could say the motor driven wheel, it might be worth its cost for extra security &c 3 idea line. I expect we shall be seeing you at Mr. Claremonts Office on Thursday Afternoon. Many thanks for your father's letter. Yours v.{VIENNA} Sincerely, F H RoyceSir Henry Royce [Bracketed note at bottom left]: re insulation &c, I believe the Bakerlite from Ellison is your greatest help, I do not like the large clearing coming the brushholder independent of metal, may be good for insulation but insufficient rigidity permanently R [Text below bracketed note]: I should like 2 or 3 doz envelopes. printed address 'Royce Ltd, Workroom No. -, Trafford Park, Manchester' then 'quarto.' [Vertical note on right side]: we ordinarily added this idea for 10/- per member per day. this of course we have to do 3d as anything they may have suitable | ||
