PHANTOM III LIGHTENED RADIATOR WITH PRESSURE COOLING.

Referring to your criticisms we are dealing with them as shown below :-

(1) Rubber couplings

The type of rubber coupling which we use at present on our experimental cars - i.e. red petrol and oil resisting hose made by Messrs. British Goodrich is quite satisfactory for this pressure.

(2) Sheet metal bottom tank has only to support matrix weight, not radiator weight.

(3) Sheet metal bottom tank difficult to produce, we have modified this somewhat (see marked up blue prints attached).

(4) Sheet metal water outlet difficult to produce, we have modified this (see marked up blue prints attached).

(5) Drain cock in alum not serviceable, we have shown a bronze insert on marked up prints attached.

(6) Question of failure of alum casting for filler, this should not occur if properly handled so we shall proceed with this as drawn. It will always be possible to make this casting in brass if necessary.

(7) We have included a further alteration on marked up prints attached, i.e. stiffening ribs to be pressed into the top tank matrix frame to prevent bulging under pressure.

(8) We should like you to make provision for connecting a transmitting thermometer and a pressure gauge to the top tank.
