Phantom III Overheating Complaint
3.AZ.216.

Referring to Rob.10/22.8.38. which has been passed on to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. for his attention, we would like you to let us have for examination the matrix which was removed from 3.AZ.216. recently and which according to above memo. is suspected of being a MK.VI one.

With regard to the question of guaranteeing no further overheating of this car 3.AZ.216, a 5 blade fan with Ferogrip belt should certainly be fitted to this car in view of the owners remarks.

With such a fan fitted and the new MK.VI matrix already fitted no overheating should be experienced under level road conditions, whatever the speed or weather conditions, or under mountain climbing conditions provided the atmospheric temperature does not exceed 105°F.{Mr Friese}

It will still be possible to cause overheating however, if the car is idled long enough on an extremely hot day (say 95°F or over). In this connection the setting and seating of the steam valve should be checked, a latest type thermostat fitted (reading to 106°C) and the owner should be informed that no harm is done provided the water temp. does not exceed 106°C for long periods.

When we have inspected the old matrix and ascertained the cause of its choking up, we shall be able to say whether it will be necessary to take any steps to prevent the recurrence of this on the car 3.AZ.216.

Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.
