INDIA - 4 SPEED GEAR BOX. We attach to R's copy of this memo a print of a rough drawing, which is our interpretation of your telegram for torsionally free pinions on the reverse. In order to get this job instructed quickly (the experimental department had it in hand 2 1/2 hours after sight of your telegram), we found a broach which seemed fairly suitable, and which has determined to some extent the size of the splines, of which there are 10 in number. We expect to have this experiment on test by midday tomorrow (Sunday). We anticipate this scheme will get over all our troubles, and hope so, particularly in view of the fact that it will save considerable time in assembling, the parts are less expensive to make and one cover can be eliminated from the box with this.
