Heath 1305 Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} /Les3/B. 16.11.36 The English Steel Corporation Ltd., Vickers Works, SHEFFIELD. For the attention of Mr. B. Gray. Dear Sirs, This is to confirm our conversation, together with Mr. Webster, on Thursday, the 12th instant. We should like you to produce for an endurance test a pair of road springs to FW.754, incorporating the following alterations:- (1) The lubrication drilling and the length of the plates for the rear end of the spring should be similar to the front end. (2) No cadmium plating is required. (3) Parallel hole to locate centre bolt. We can send you centre bolts to the attached drawing which could be modified. (4) We shall supply 4 lubrication adaptors which will require riveting to the second plates. (5) In order to allow easy dismantling of the plates, it appears to be necessary to retain the present spring guide clips. (6) The plates will require to be drilled and grooved for lubrication, but the diagonal grooves may be omitted. (7) We shall fit the bushes in both spring eyes. The object of this test is to produce a spring which is considerably cheaper than FW.754, but is sufficiently reliable without increasing the dead of the spring. We are quite prepared to carry out some development | ||
