-2- (d) The ability of the car to run on the No.1 pump fuel available in either France or Germany. (e) A speedometer reading* of 115 m.p.h. on a French road. (f) A speedometer reading* of 120 m.p.h. on an Autobahn. * It is almost impossible to check a speedometer at these speeds but the one used was probably 5% fast. The majority of the high speed driving demonstration work was carried out most expertly by Sr. Mr. Morgan wanted us to attempt to break the 80 m.p.h. average from Munich to Berlin set up by Herr Henlein. Continuous stretches of ice on the Autobahn caused us to decide against such a project. This, however, can undoubtedly be done with ease when the large tank is fitted so that the run can be accomplished without a fill-up. We suggest it would be excellent publicity later on. Since it is proposed to run the hour at Montlhery under A.C.F. observation, there was no object in the Press Representatives waiting to see the attempt (in fact rather the reverse in case any trouble was experienced). Having all particulars and photographs of the car, they will publish the officially observed figures as soon as these are available. We hope that this will be before the end of the week. After this it is proposed that Eyston shall go out and try the car, which will then be brought back to have the new engine and large tank fitted etc. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
