RJ. from ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} cc. to Nor. cc. to Hiv. cc. to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to EFC cc. to Sgn ROY{Sir Henry Royce}4/MG29.8.27 MAGNETOS -------------- Mr. North, of the Watford Magneto Company, was here on Friday (26th) and left his latest example of a Sleeveless type Magneto he has now produced, i.e. similar to the Lucas we have had under observation for some time. He stated, assuming our tests were satisfactory, he would be in a position to supply such Sleeveless type Magneto at ............................. £8.10. 0d each compared with his figure for our present standard sleeve type E.O.6 Magneto of ................... £11. 0. 0d " i.e. a saving per annum of roughly .............. £1,500. 0. 0d quite apart from the economy we should probably effect in the Road Test Department in avoiding the necessity for taking down Magnetos on the score of noise, seized cam boxes, etc., He could commence bulk deliveries in 6-8 weeks from approval. He expressed the opinion that the sleeveless type Magneto he is now putting forward would overcome the difficulties with which we have been faced necessitating the rejection in the Road Test of at least 1 in 4 Magnetos. I do not know whether the Experimental Shop could make any special arrangements to expedite tests with the said Magneto, but if they could, it would not only show us a decided economy in purchase, but might help the Road Test Department very materially.
