r1087 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}3/KT. June 24th 1933. T.C. Skinner Esq., The S.U. Company, East Works, Bordesley Green Road, Adderley Park, B'ham. Dear Mr. Skinner, W. Lappin our aero sales representative has been running two of your petrol pumps on his car. These pumps were two old ones which had previously done 15,000 miles in France. The pumps have suffered from sticking of the main spindle on more than one occasion and also the points on one pump had burnt rather badly. This is not very encouraging and we are therefore anxious to get a number of your pumps on which to do endurance running on the test bed and on cars. I rang up yesterday but only managed to get in communication with your Mr. Kent. I asked him to let us have four pumps as soon as possible, and will be glad if you will arrange this. With regard to the carburation, we are waiting to hear further from you with regard to Van de Becke. We suggest that Van de Becke should come over here to do the tuning up. We do not think there will be much to do actually as the carburation is really very good. We have reduced the size of the balance hole between to two halves on the pipe to .5" diameter which has improved the snap-opening up enormously and also the slow running. We have got water heated hot spots, which has also improved the slow running, as there was not enough exhaust heat at tick over speeds to do much good. If for any reason, after his preliminary effort, you find you want the car at B'ham, we might be able to arrange this, but we have rather a lot of work to do on the car at the present moment. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
