VALVE GEAR PEDESTALS.
Derby would like the facings for the pedestals flush with the cyl. top to facilitate production.
We have however shewn them level with the ribs to save weight since the pedestals are of aluminium alloy. This may introduce a milling operation where there is none at present but we think it worth while.
We have reduced these pedestal bases from a round to a quasi rectangular outline to save weight and the same width as the boss on the top end where possible to facilitate production.

END CYLINDER STUDS.
On the present 'China' the end cylinder studs on the crankshaft centre line are carried through the cylinder block into the crankcase. We propose to stop these at the gasket like all the other studs on this plane as the cylinder block should be deep and stiff enough to make a good oil joint without them.
