The impression had not increased to any extent after the final 60 hours at 600 lb. ft. torque and was presumably due to the settling down of the taper, since when tested, the bedding surfaces were found to be well mated. - Note that the shaft was produced in S/7N and the coupling piece in S/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} In conclusion, both the couplings proved satisfactory, there being very little to choose between them under equal conditions. Incidentally, the securing nuts were in all cases found to be quite tight when the rig was being stripped for inspection, in spite of the fact that no locking device was fitted. R.M.L.
