For the attention of Mr. Hardy, Experimental Department.
Dear Sirs,
We are returning to you the skeleton Steering Gear which your Mr. Hardy brought down for test during his last visit to us.
We have gone very carefully through this Gear and as far as we have proceeded it would appear that the Rollers and the Cam are to drawing with the exception of one Roller which has been corrected and is now returned.
On assembly, however, the Roller contact with the Cam does not appear to be correct in every respect, and we, therefore, take the liberty of holding back here one of the Cams and one of the inside Rollers for further investigation.
We sincerely trust that we shall be able to find out what is wrong, and if the Cam is found to be wrong we shall in accordance with your instructions make three new Cams to take the place of the three in existence.
Meanwhile, as you are no doubt aware, we have already despatched to you three lower ratio Cams and the single Roller for this type of gear. We have taken the opportunity
