TO EY. Copy to EBH Ser. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hayles. xlock 622 [Signature] Wraith II Front Suspension. We have already sent to you N.Sch.4784 showing the front suspension forging for Wraith II to take the Phantom III front suspension. In the interests of both weight and expense it has been decided not to use the Phantom II pieces but to take advantage of the frame forging, which in any case is a new piece, by mounting upon it the fixing for the pan and the top triangle bearings, so enabling the remainder of the unit to be made of aluminium alloy casting. On N.Sch.4813 herewith we show the scheme proposed which, although varying from the Phantom III in the manner previously described, is essentially the same. The method of attaching the forging to the chassis frame is the same as on N.Sch.4784, although the dimensions have been modified slightly. Sufficient of the cast aluminium alloy pots have been shown to enable the forging to be detailed completely, and for details of the aluminium alloy pots to be partially completed. The remaining outstanding information concerns the ribbing of the outer pot to take the blow and rebound buffer, and the bolting for the shock absorber unit on the inner pot. We show the front jack bracket as an aluminium alloy casting and made to take a Phantom III front jack. A subsequent drawing will show the shock absorber unit, the springs and particulars of the front suspension lever. A facing for the filler unit has been provided but the actual design of the filler will form the subject of a separate scheme. We think that we can reasonably believe that this design will save considerable weight over the Phantom III, | ||
