For the attention of Mr. C.H.Brooks.

Dear Sirs,

We should like you to supply us with the following rings :-

30 rings to drawing E.61115.
40 rings to drawing E.61116.

The prints attached are advance drawings and in the case of E.61116 the dimensions specificied should be adhered to and no notice should be taken of the scale of the drawing.

There is also an obvious mistake with regard to the maximum and minimum closed gap, these should read vice-versa on the drawing.

With regard to rings to E.61115 several particulars are put on the drawing relating to Tangential load, diametrical load and unit pressures. The writer has reason to believe that these have been miscalculated, and the actual unit pressure using your normal material, and producing the rings by hammering should be in the region of 13.1 lbs/sq.in. and not 14.55 to 20.93 as specified on the drawing. The writer has based his calculations on an E_N value of 15,000,000 lbs/sq.in. that is assuming the E_N value drops 1,500,000 lbs/sq.in. due to hammering, and taking your normal material to have a value of 16,500,000 lbs/sq.in. before hammering.
