COPY. X2200. To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} From Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} c. to R.{Sir Henry Royce} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} License for Maybach Easy Change Gear. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}7/E21.4.31. X.523. X.2200. Replying to By10/G.17.4.31. you will have received R2/M14.4.31. I am glad to see that R.{Sir Henry Royce} feels thatthese people are asking much too much and that he would prefer to spend money in extra work on designs rather than pay this royalty. From a memo. which I have seen from the Experimental Dept.. I gather that technically they are less keen on the Maybach clutch than they were so that it rather looks as if, apart from the question of the amount demanded for royalty, we shall not be desirous of adopting their device.
