To Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. X2065 EFC2/T8.6.28. RE P & R.{Sir Henry Royce} FALL. CELLS. During Mr. Minchin's visit recently we went into the question of the failures of the positive elements of our FA.11 stationary cells, enquiring of him as to what he could suggest to overcome the trouble of these buckling and shorting - the very same trouble that we used to have in the early days of the car batteries before we had wood and ebonite separators. As this battery is used very much in the same way as a car battery, we enquired if it would be possible to use wood and ebonite separators also in these batteries. I have this morning received a letter from Mr. Minchin, of which the attached is a copy. We should be pleased if you would now order a set of four positive elements, together with wood and ebonite separators as suggested for replacing in these cells. There are eight cells in a battery and we have, since the battery was first put into use, had four positive replacements. These four new positives, of which the oldest one is about 1 yr. 10 months, are all in reasonable condition. We think we can replace the present glass type separators with wood and ebonite with a view to keeping them so. We suggest therefore that whereas four sets of positive elements should be ordered, sufficient wood and ebonite separators for the whole battery (8 cells) should be obtained at this time. Would you please order accordingly. EFC. | ||
