X.6020a. To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from EFC. c. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} EFC3/AD25.2.30. X.6020 PHANTOM II IGNITION WIRE TUBES. With reference to our recent conversation on the above matter and the scheme 12C3. which has been submitted to you, as a result of enquiry we have now received copy of Hy{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}/Cghll/Cl4.1.30 together with blue print of the scheme. We have a criticism of the scheme to make arising out of observation of the present paper lined Vulcanite covered steel tubes, namely that the effect of heating and cooling on the paper lining is to destroy the correct registration of the H.T. wire holes in the paper lining and the steel tube in such a way that the wires might suffer damage by the corners of the paper tube cutting into them. Mr.West tells me that he has observed this in a number of cases and that actually in some cases the wires cannot be removed without destruction. We see no reason for the necessity of the paper tube at all and would suggest that we dispense with this in the new design. A further suggestion that has been made is that in place of employing the rubber ring inserted as a protection to the wires from the edges of the holes in the aluminium tube, a rigid moulded bakelite ring be employed in each case which could be secured in place by a steel spring clip on the lines shewn by Mr.West's sketch attached. The reason of this suggestion is that the rubber is very prone to perish. EFC. | ||
