Contd. -2- planet wheel ball bearing lubrication. They have not yet been examined by any of our men to confirm this point. The experience goes to prove that it is a fault which takes place on the first run of a gear. Once the gear has run a few hours the risk is very little. It is difficult to give a reason why these bearings should suddenly commence to give a lot of trouble - it may be due to the ball bearings although examination does not show any fault in them. It is most probably due to a variation in fitting, thus not allowing the usual amount of oil to leak into the gear until it has run for some time. I do not consider that the recent failures of the planet wheel ball bearings could have been anticipated on experimental tests. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} EX. MAR 22 1920 RECEIVED | ||
