BENTLEY REAR AXLE SHAFT.

DEFLECTION TEST.

Hoffman No.340 - 40 m/m Bearing.

GB.4020 Shaft.

After 100 hours running at 1,000 R.P.M. 1 Ton load the endurance test was suspended to enable the following test to be carried out.

The loading housing replaced by a plate - to enable the deflections of the flange to be measured - and a load of 1 Ton applied through the plate at the equivalent road wheel vertical centre line. The deflections of the axle shaft flange, and also the bowing of the shaft, midway between the bearings and the driving serrations were recorded - as shown in BL.2350.

The bearings suggested on DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 2/G.22.5.39. will be tested when available.
