| TOTAL EXPERIMENTAL RUNNING TO DATE ON DURAL CON. RODS - BENTLEY. Two types of Dural Con. Rods have been used for experimental running. Both are shown on EX.12396. The second type (called B) is similar to the first (A) except that the big end was strengthened up. Three sets of type A were used. All subsequent rods were of B type. Set 1. (A Type) - Fitted to Unit C.XI. Run on test bed for 26 hrs. at and over 4000 r.p.m. Failure due either to No. 4 piston or No. 4 rod. Four of original rods plus two new rods of same type fitted to Unit B.I. Chassis 3-B-IV. Mileage to date = 8670. Total running of 4 original rods = 24 hrs. + 8670 miles. Still in use. Set 2. (A Type). - Fitted to Unit B.4.A. Test bed running at and over 4000 r.p.m. = 20 hrs. Running in chassis 1-B-IV = 3000 miles. Same rods removed from B.4.A and fitted to Unit B.6. Test bed running at and over 4000 r.p.m. = 8 hrs. No.failure. Total running of rods = 28 hrs. + 3000 miles. Not now in use. | ||
