To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from EFC. X.2641. PUSH BUTTON SWITCHES We have had several production push button switches in for examination. A common fault with these is that when built up, the carbon contacts are already in contact, or nearly so, so that the switch is either making connection or clear by too small an amount. Another point is that it seems rather easy for a connection to be made between the frame and the insulated portions of the switch, in other words, there does not seem to be in every case, sufficient clearance so that a slight relative movement of the cover might cause contact when not desired. A further point is that the insulating button on the underside of the push button hardly seems to stand out enough, so that with a small amount of wear a contact might conceivably be made to the case at this point. It would assist us materially if it could be ascertained by a Drawing Office representative that these, and other pieces of electrical apparatus, are made reasonably to drawing before them came along to us for electrical test.
