To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. BJ. AUTO CHARGE CONTROL SWITCH. As referred to in our EFC1/T10.12.27 we duly got the auto charge switch referred to on your chassis 14-EX. This particular switch we found a little more difficult to adjust than the first experimental model, owing to the fact that the fixed contact was not practically rigid enough as it was in the early one, but it has enabled us to arrive at the necessity of great stiffness in the support of the fixed contact. We did not have an opportunity of ourselves observing this on the car, but we have a report to the effect that this is sometimes charging, and sometimes not, so it seems as if the switch is working satisfactorily. If you notice any irregularity in the behaviour we hope you will take into account the fact of it having been got through and got on the car in a hurry, and we know that this is not such a good switch as the first experimental model with more rigid fixed support, the performance of which we were able to investigate more fully. Two more units have been instructed and we are having the instructions modified for more rigid contact point supports. We are now investigating on the bench more fully the behaviour of the Midgley unit (auto switch only) adapted to work on our own system. EFC. | ||
