Whilst we agree that no alternative design has yet been tested, we feel that making any further pumps of this original type, which incidentally has been discarded by Vauxhalls, is a waste of time and material. As an alternative, therefore, to this pump we suggest that the latest design DCD.1388 be adopted for the next engines, as we feel that this offers considerably more chance of success than the original scheme. Naturally we do not wish to go wholesale into the job, and suggest that three or four pumps be completed, the specification for later engines being decided when some results are available on the one pump which has been completed to date. In support of the above recommendation we have the facts that the design of our latest pump is based on the Humber design, which is very satisfactory, and that Vauxhalls have changed their design to embody precisely similar principles.
