To OY. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X.3896. X3527 R1/M29.9.23. RE. ENGINE OIL LEVEL GAUGE. X.3896 In reply to your letter re. the method of inspecting the amount of oil in the engine, we and most high class makers now prefer the gauge to the cock because it is quite clean and convenient, and will be much more often looked at, and has the enormous advantage of shewing how far away the oil level is from the maximum quantity. We use on the 20 HP. chassis a gauge with central float reading approximately correct in all positions of the chassis. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
