AC-SPHINX SPARKING PLUG Co. LTD. DIRECTORS: N.F. Stockbridge, W.O.Kennington, C.J.Bartlett. Telegrams: SPHINX, DUNSTABLE. Telephone: DUNSTABLE 360. DUNSTABLE, BEDS., ENGLAND. Our Ref. NFS/GEB. Your Ref. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wst.10/AP. 13th May, 1937. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Derby. For the Attention of Mr. H.E. West. Dear Mr. West, Further to my letter of April 30th and your reply thereto of the 1st instant, I am very anxious to have your people try out two alternative designs of sinterkorund plugs that we now have, because I think they represent a considerable advance over anything previously submitted to you. I already have the fired insulators ready with the special electrodes fitted, but the bar of 1" diameter Invar steel which we require for the shells has been lost on the railway, and so far neither the suppliers, Messrs. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} P. Wall Ltd., nor ourselves have been able to locate it. As I am anxious to push on with these plug experiments, I am wondering whether your people have any small quantity of Invar steel about 1" diameter of which you could send us a short length, say 3 ft. It would be very helpful if you could assist us in this way. Thanking you in anticipation, I am, Yours faithfully, [Signature of N. F.{Mr Friese} Stockbridge] N.
