Mr. Coventry of the Magnesium Co., Ltd., London, visited us yesterday afternoon.

They now have a large foundry, capable of undertaking the casting of crankcases and similar parts, and they will be pleased to undertake this work whenever we wish.

Mr. Coventry will send us three or four test bars, one inch diameter, six or seven inches long, forged magnesium alloy, with a view to our using this alloy for stampings.

As these people are connected with Vickers, we should be able to get magnesium stampings from the dies already in existence.

We should make a tensile test, a fatigue test and a corrosion test.

The Air Ministry have issued a provisional specification, D.T.D. 59, for magnesium alloy castings, of which I attach a copy. I think the 12 tons maximum stress is optimistic. This specification covers the German alloy handled by Sterlings, not the alloys produced by the British Magnesium Co.

Mr. Coventry informs me that his Company are working to eliminate corrosion.

Rg.{Mr Rowledge}

Enclosure:- Copy of Specification.
