X3458 COPY. Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} From BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} C. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FC 1921 BY6-P1.11.21. X3458 X3409 40/50 CHASSIS. REAR HUB & BRAKE. RE BRAKE LINERS. Referring to Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}1/NJ281021 and Ferodo Ltd., letter of the 26th inst., after considering the latter I have discussed the matter with Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, and we are of the opinion that the best way to get satisfaction would be for us to supply Ferodo Ltd., with an axle tube complete with brake brackets, wheel and brake drum, also the brake operating gear, as by supplying these Messrs. Ferodo could try out all the points which they are interested in and which they have raised in their letter. We do not think there is any possibility of leverage altering due to movement of brake liners, as this has all been very carefully arranged for in the original design, but in order to clear up this point, the foregoing proposition of supplying a brake drum with operating gear complete, has been put forward. We therefore propose to instruct the Experimental Department to produce us the unit referred to, which we will then send on to Messrs. Ferodo Ltd., and as supplied to them it will be in the condition of a new drum with shoes unpolished, and will therefore enable them to note what happens when the brake drum is new, as compared with what occurs when the brake drum and shoe are polished, and incidentally they would be able to form some idea how soon the polishing takes place.
