ORIGINAL. To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hsl/LG2. 3. 23. RE. BREATHER PIPE FROM CRANKCASE TO HOT AIR PIPE. 40/50. Y3908 We attach herewith print of this arrangement. A print of this was sent to W.W. with the standardisation sheet which R.{Sir Henry Royce} signed. You will see that as regards the connections on the crankcase, we have followed the 20 H.P. The trouble on Repair Cars is that there is no boss on the crankcase to drill into it and the hole comes just on the radius so that it is difficult to get a true hole. On standard production where the boss has been left on the crankcase, it is as goos as the 20 H.P. We have, however, taken up the question, that it would be better if a firm oil-tight joint was made on the crankcase and for the flexible connection to be at the carburetter end.
