WELLWORTHY PISTON RINGS LIMITED CONTINUATION No. 1. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd. 13th July, 1939. a contributory factor regarding the failure of these bearings and also what might be done to remedy this state of affairs. Actually what we have done at the moment is to make further bearings for test on which we have put up the Brinell hardness to 85, with a view to reducing the spread of the bearing below, and one set has been machined at the joint faces so that they can be located by shims in place of the dowel peg. At the present moment bearings are tending to become loose in their housing, and it is felt that shims might prevent this from happening. Immediately after you have concluded your investigations on these two half bearings perhaps you will be good enough to let me know whether you think a visit to Dennis Bros. worth while, and when this can be arranged. Yours sincerely, L G Blackith DICTATED BUT NOT SIGNED BY Mr. BLACKITH | ||
