Brakes - Bentley & Silver Wraith.

The following points require attention -

(1)
There is no rubber grummet to steady the long rod between the servo cam lever and the rear brake cross shaft.
This rattles and may produce servo judders.
It should be set so that the rod rests on the rubber when the brake rod has no sag in it.
A grummet is already fitted on the rod from the servo to the rear.

(2)
There is insufficient clearance between the wing and bonnet side plates and the intermediate lever mounted on the frame carrying the rod to the front brakes.
More clearance should be allowed as in a few cases this has fouled on cars fitted with mechanical front brakes.

(3)
Hydraulic Brakes.
The pull off springs are not strong enough to return the shoes owing to the fact that the residual pressure in the line is 10 lbs. per sq. inch.
We have found that when two of the existing springs are used they will return the shoes against a line pressure of 16 lbs.sq.in.
The arrangement we are using is fitted in all our cars with hydraulic front brakes and a proper scheme should be detailed and instructed.

(4)
The steady provided for the rear brake shoes is now shown fitted to the dust excluding plate and not the carrier plate as on S.B.V.
