Messrs. John Marston Ltd.,
Wolverhampton.

16th. September 1937.

For the attention of Mr. Dunn.

Dear Sirs,

Referring to the oil cooler failures which we have been experiencing on Phantom III cars - these have reached alarming proportions and examination of failed coolers (by sectioning etc.), has indicated very definitely that the failures are due to defective soldering of the outer case to the matrix.

Our administration consider that these failures, being directly attributable to faulty manufacture, are your responsibility. In order to avoid further trouble it is proposed to change all hand-soldered coolers in service for the dip-soldered type, they therefore, consider that you should provide the replacement coolers without charge.

We should be glad if you would ring up the writer to-morrow, just before or just after the lunch hour (12.30 to 1.30) in order to make an appointment for you to come over to our works to discuss this matter with our head buyer, Mr. Royce, and our chief chassis engineer, Mr. Harvey Bailey.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
