so that the heavy starter current as well as the lighting was earthed. The single contact bulbs are used in the lamps. The Battery is carried in the frame at the rear.

CLUTCH. The clutch is the dry multi-plate type. Seven outer and seven inner plates are used. From what we could see, wire woven bonded asbestos discs were used. With the full movement of the clutch pedal, the clutch was withdrawn .450". The load necessary to operate the clutch pedal was 30 lbs. Instead of the outer plates being slotted in the usual way, there were holes drilled in the plates. The drive was taken through studs. There were springs between the plates carried on these studs to separate all the plates when the clutch was disengaged. There was no clutch brake. It was possible to change gear by crashing the gears. The clutch operated very well indeed. There was a slight tendency to "grab" when getting away on the low gears.

GEAR BOX.

The gear box case is cast with the engine case. The lay drive shaft is underneath. There are four speeds. The ratio of them is as follows:-
Top gear - 3.75 to 1
3rd. " - 4.81 to 1
2nd. " - 9 to 1
1st. " - 13.88 to 1
Reverse " - 17.62 to 1

The change speed lever is on the right-hand side of the car.

BRAKES. X.3458

The brakes on this car certainly operated remarkably well. The brakes on all four wheels are operated by the foot
