BONNETS.
-------

Referring to Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Evl/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} 30.9.24, we recently wrote Sales (BJ) fully on this subject.

The facts of the case are as follows:-

Some three years ago (approximately), a proposal was put forward by the Experimental Dept. to do away with the shutters in the bonnet, the objection to this fitment being that they very considerably increased rattling noises at the front end of the car. The Standardization Sheet was issue and fully signed up. As a result of my representations, however, a project was finally squashed.

At the time that the Standardization Sheet was issued, the question of the class of finish on the bonnet where a polished bonnet was required, came up. We therefore pointed out that if we anticipated the signing of the Standardization Sheet referred to above, and gave a customer a bonnet without shutters, we could materially improve the finish of the bonnet, and this was done in certain cases but the number of cars so treated was very few indeed.

As a matter of fact in a memo we wrote to Sales we pointed out even then that we could not possibly agree to cars going abroad with shutterless bonnets, but when the Standardization Sheet was finally withdrawn as a result of my activities in this direction, we ceased to fit unshuttered polished bonnets unless specially called for, and then we objected to them entirely if they were for use abroad.
