Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rml/AD. 22nd April, 1931. M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Olley Esq. Cadillac Motor Car Co. Detroit, Michigan. Dear Cy, Synchro Mesh Gear Box. We have been trying a synchro mesh gear box on the latest 8-cylinder Buick. We think that its operation is very good. Can you tell us whether there are any snags in this device, who owns patents and whether they are likely to be reasonable with regard to royalties? Can you possibly, at the same time, tell us whether the type of synchro mesh shewn on the latest Warner gear box in "Automotive Industries" of Jan. 3rd, has proved itself, as this appears to be the simplest possible arrangement? Do you know of any cars that have had troubles with this easy change in the States? Why the complicated device shewn in the "Automotive Industries" of Dec. 27th 1930? Steering Shocks. Can you tell us anything new about avoiding steering shocks? Recently, American car steerings have improved out of all recognition. The steering of the 8-cylinder Buick that we recently tried was beautifully light, transmitting practically no road reaction and self-centred round corners. | ||
