Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} Derby. C. to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Derby F.P. " Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} " Whr.{Mr Wheeler} London. C.W.B. " 48950 P6.3/FM-30/8/27. Speaking generally our worst complaints out here, apart from springing which as you know is subjudice, are as follows:-- Steering wobbles and joggles on both 20 and 40/50 H.P. rear axle periods and groans, squeaking brakes chiefly 20 H.P., and on Silver Ghost models quite an epidemic of mis-firing due to bad gas distribution, some of them entirely incurable by the altering of throttle etc. I wish Works could give me a little further help in this direction as it is a very real nuisance and I should very much like to be able to effect a certain cure. My own car 47AU is a chronic offender and 138BW is another. I think also that the fitting of some form of torque rod to the front axle should be hurried forward as we have had one or two cases of cars turning over, in connection with which I enclose herewith copies of reports; (not all these accidents could be traced to braking but it seems strange that we should have had three cars turned over recently though I do not remember a single instance of this type of accident prior to this) 75MG and 17HG do not appear to come under the heading of braking trouble but 45NC and 44RC{R. Childs} most certainly do. Pt. P.Encls. By the way is there any prospect of the fitting of some sort of torque rod to the front axles on 20 H.P. chassis? | ||
