PIERCE ARROW ENGINE MOUNTING

Exhaust Silencer.

They use a Burgess muffler split up into two 4 foot lengths. I should guess that it only weighs half as much as our system. They say that they tried numerous combinations in conjunction with the Burgess people before they got the result. They claim that they loose only 4 B.H.P. on 135 with the system but this hardly seems credible.

It is certainly very quiet and except for one very slight period at 40/50 m.p.h. is up to RR standard. They say the 6 cyl is not so easy to silence as the 12 cyl. By the feel of the car on the road they do not loose very much in the silencer. I will confirm the power losses with General Motors and if as good as stated will try and bring something back.
