Dear Sir,

Thank you for your letter of 1st April. I note that you are making some experiments before you pay us a visit, and I think this is a good idea.

Other problems which we have had to face in making our "Light Alloy" car are:-

1 - Design of light alloy connecting rods. The necessity or otherwise of steel caps on these rods.

2 - The production of an exceptionally light piston that will retain its strength at high temperatures. We understood from Mr. Devereux that there was a possibility of using forged magnesium.

3 - The most economical and satisfactory way of putting valve inserts into a light alloy head.

4 - The technique of casting inserts of any particular material direct into aluminium.

5 - An economical method of making light alloy petrol tanks.

6 - A means of getting a durable polished surface comparable with that of chromium plate on aluminium tubes.

We have various other minor problems which we can discuss with you when you come to Derby.

Yours faithfully,
