X4553A Hotel de France. Chateauroux. Indre. To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} From G.W.H. B E N S P O R T. We have received the following telegram: WHY CANNOT YOU PIN HALF SHAFTS TO DIFFERENTIAL CASE AND RETURN WITH AXLE SOLID IF IMPOSSIBLE CAN WE SEND PARTS TO REPAIR AXLE IF SO SEND LIST - HIVES We sent you the following telegram: WE SHALL TRY TO BRING CAR WITH SOLID AXLE - HANCOCK. --- To try and pin the shafts to the differential case would not last five minutes, the pins would shear off. There are only two half star wheels left. We have welded these to the star shaft, locking up one driving shaft only. We are endeavouring to get one bolt to hold the pinion on the driving shaft. The other shaft we are leaving free so as not to put a strain on the axle when taking corners. It will mean very carefull driving to get to Derby, but we will do our upmost to get the car back. * [Signature: GWHancock] G.W.H. | ||
