26/116 HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.5/MA. 11th October, 1934. Mr.R.N.Neill, Messrs.Joseph Lucas Ltd., Great King Street, Birmingham,19. P.100 Headlamps. Dear Mr.Neill, No doubt you have heard or will hear from Mr.Bailey, which is our Technical Production Engineer, about the troubles we are experiencing with the above headlamps. I have really lost all hope in them and feel that we shall never gain any satisfaction until the lamp is radically redesigned. I hope you will forgive me, but I am experimenting myself at the works here with what I consider the best scheme of headlamps with dimming control. In these lamps I am doing away with the dipping reflector which has always been a source of trouble as far as we are concerned, and am using double filament bulbs of the Lucas Graves type. The optical glass arrangement has been altered to suit our requirements and so far we are very pleased with the results. Naturally we save a lot of weight and complication and due to the use of high power filaments in the special bulbs being produced for us, we get plenty of light both forward and dipped. | ||
