S E C R E T. X8980 X80240 X4603 EAC. 'V' SERIES - AND CONDOR 'L' SHAPED PISTON RINGS. The reports from the car in France show that very little improvement has been made to the car by changing the rings on the pistons already fitted, to 'L' type. We suspect two points - either the rings have been fitted the wrong way up - (the fitters say they were not), or the rings are tight in the grooves which would not allow these rings to function. We have recently carried out a test with these rings on a 'Condor' engine. We have always been in trouble with the oil consumption on the 'Condor' engine at high speeds in spite of a number of experiments which have been made. We ran a Condor engine for 1-1/2 hours at 2100 r.p.m., the oil consumption was 37 pts. We removed the cylinder only and altered the existing rings to 'L' shape, and repeated the test under identical conditions, and the oil consumption was 9 pts., run exactly the same length of time. We ran a further hour to confirm it and the consumption was 6-1/2 pts. As regards the EAC. car in France. We are testing a set of standard pistons with 'L' shaped rings on a car, and shall send them complete to France after we have proved they are satisfactory. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
