RAPSON JACKS FOR 20 HP. CARS.

With reference to the Rapson Jack and Fittings which you sent to us to try on a 20 HP. Car. We have fitted these up on a car and the following are our criticisms.

Front. In order to ensure the base of the Jack will clear the tyre when deflated, it is necessary to fix the hook on the front axle further on the centre than shown on the attached blue print.
We recommend the hook should be fitted in such a position that it is 14" from the ground and not 15" as shown.

Back. The stud boss which has to pass between the tie rod and the axle tube when fitting clips, has to have a considerable amount filed off the corner to clear. This also applies to the set screw boss.
We suggest it would be more convenient to have the set screw in the other half of the clip.

On trying the rear fittings on several standard axles, it was found that there was a variation in the space between the tie rod and axle so that it would be an advantage to have the hook and block a little narrower.

We think it is important that we should make it clear to Messrs. Rapson or anybody else fitting these Jacks that they must, on no account, disturb the tie rod on the axle. We might ask the Rapson people to put this note on their blueprint.

We think that the whole design of the Rapson clips is unnecessarily heavy and ugly, but we believe you took this up with them in the case of the 40/50 H.P.
