Explosions in
New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I Silencer.

BJ13/E18/10/26

With reference to H9/IW/15/10/26, I feel sure you will appreciate the importance of the explosions in the silencer being entirely overcome.

I should be glad if you could let me know when I could try one of the latest cars in which the explosions in the silencer are eliminated as far as possible.

Whenever I go out on a Phantom car, I am still ashamed of it in this respect.

I am confident that it is useless for us to suggest that drivers shall always entirely close their throttles, as this is practically impossible in traffic etc.

It is also likely to lead continually to drivers stopping their engines in traffic and having to re-start them.

It is difficult enough at present to keep a Phantom engine running at all slowly in traffic owing to the irregularity of the throttle.

We still have to choose between having our engines running round fast and noisily or running the risk of the engine stopping.

It is most necessary that West WitteringHenry Royce's home town should take these two matters thoroughly in hand at the earliest possible moment as they are points which are doing much to give the Phantom a bad name and stop sales.

BJ.
