Messrs. Walker Bros Ltd.,
Pagefield Iron Works,
W I G A N.

Dear Sirs,

We have received the shells which you installed for us with NS{Norman Scott}5 Cadmium Nickel alloy and upon measuring them up unfortunately find that they have been scrapped through the rough machining of the outside of the shells.

This we find is considerably out of truth such that when mounted on a machine for boring out the inside of the shell, we find that this is running eccentric to the extent of .015.

As you have only left this about .040 undersize to machine to true bore means taking .030 off on one side which would result in an uneven thickness of metal on the shell.

We are, therefore, despatching a further set of shells to you for metalling in similar NS{Norman Scott}5 material.

In this further set will you please leave all the machining for our attention.

The scrapping of the shells is very unfortunate in that we particularly allotted an engine for the job which was dismantled in readiness for fitting the bearings. We have instructed that a further set of shells be sent you as soon as possible and you will no doubt do the best at your end to urge the job.

Yours faithfully,

For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
